Learning Outcomes

By the end of this lab, you will be able to:

• Complete a machine learning tutorial using a large data set
• Submit predictions to a Kaggle competition, and explain your accuracy score
• Try changes to improve a model, and compare the results
• Evaluate a tutorial, and suggest ways to improve on it

Lab Instructions

Steps

1. Go to Kaggle Link: https://www.kaggle.com/ and create a free account.
2. Join the Titanic competition. The tutorial below will walk you through this.
3. Complete the Titanic tutorial. Link: https://www.kaggle.com/code/alexisbcook/titanic-tutorial
4. Submit your predictions to the competition.
5. Take a screenshot of your score on the leaderboard. Your screenshot must show your Kaggle username, and include a note with your name and the term, the same as the screenshots in your other labs.

Questions

1. What do you think of the tutorial?
2. How difficult did you find this activity? Why?
3. Will you be trying another challenge on Kaggle? Why or why not? If yes, which one?
4. Improving the code
   1. Were you able to improve on the given code?
   2. What did you try?
   3. What was your score before and after?
5. What was your accuracy? You can find this on your Submissions page, where it might show up as Score or Public Score.
6. Do you have any ideas on how you could improve that?

Deliverables

1. A text document with the answers to the questions.
2. A screenshot of your score on the leaderboard, showing your Kaggle username and a note with your name and the term.
